USB Basilicata Strike on May 18, 2026

Pubblicato il 13/05/2026

PURSUANT TO ART. 9 OF THE PROVISIONAL REGULATIONS ADOPTED BY RESOLUTION NO. 18/138 OF APRIL 23, 2018, BY THE GUARANTEE COMMISSION
Notice is hereby given to the public that for Monday, May 18, 2026, the USB (Unione Sindacale Di Base) trade union of BASILICATA has announced its participation in the 24-hour (twenty-four hour) general strike for all public and private categories, proclaimed by the same union on May 7, 2026.
This strike has been called for the following reasons:
– “Given the dramatic worsening of the global situation as a direct consequence of the policies of aggression against sovereign states in violation of international law implemented by the USA and Israel, with the complicit silence of the European Union, and the expansion of war fronts which, in addition to causing thousands of deaths, has extremely serious geopolitical and economic consequences for the entire world and also for our country;
– Given the renewed hostility toward any peace initiative intended to stop war policies, the genocide of the Palestinian people, and the aggression against Lebanon, which has already resulted in the illegal blockade of the Global Sumud Flotilla and the illegal detention of vessels bound for Gaza, including an Italian vessel, and the illegal arrest of two peace activists held in Israeli prisons
in the absence of genuine condemnation and sanctions by the Italian Government and the European Union.
– Given the continuous threats of invasion against sovereign countries by the United States, such as Venezuela and Cuba, which have been subjected to a criminal blockade for over 60 years with the complicity of Italian governments.
– Given the heavy impact of ongoing wars on energy prices and the start of a new wave of inflation destined to affect workers, pensioners, students, and citizens who are already
suffering from the failure to adjust wages and pensions to the cost of living since 2022;
– Given the diversion of enormous public funds, which could be used to finance wages, pensions, healthcare, schools, housing policies, and other essential services, toward insane rearmament plans intended to reach 5%
of GDP within a few years;
– Given the Italian Government’s unwillingness to act on the enormous profits of energy companies and the banking system to rebalance the weight of the crisis which today, and for a long time to come, will be
destined to burden workers and their families.”

Please be informed that the participation rates recorded by the aforementioned trade union during the last strike were:
• Basilicata 3.56%
All services will nonetheless be guaranteed during the protected time slots, namely from 5:30 AM to 8:30 AM and from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM. The specific times are indicated in the attached schedule, along with the union bulletins.
