REACTIVATION OF BARI CENTRALE – BARI SCALO SECTION POSTPONED TO OCTOBER 27. IN ADDITION TO THE NEW BOERI-DESIGNED CANOPY, THE BRIDGE, TRACKS, AND PLATFORMS HAVE ALSO BEEN REPLACED

The reactivation of rail traffic between Bari Centrale and Bari Scalo on the Ferrovie Appulo Lucane line, suspended since June 9, has been postponed to October 27. Naturally, the replacement bus service will continue to be guaranteed throughout this period. Aware of the inconvenience to users, the Company, while asking for patience and apologizing, explains that the extension is due to a broader intervention on the railway infrastructure. In addition to replacing the old canopy at Bari Centrale with the new one designed by architect Stefano Boeri, the work also involved dismantling the old iron bridge and installing a new one, renewing the tracks on the affected section, and raising the platforms at Bari Centrale station. These necessary works would have required the suspension of rail traffic anyway, and the Company deemed it useful and appropriate to carry them out now, taking advantage of the already scheduled interruption. The new canopy, designed by architect Stefano Boeri, is part of a redevelopment project to make the station more functional, modern, and technologically advanced. Furthermore, it is an opportunity to rethink the waiting and arrival areas of the railway station, updating them in accordance with current regulations and providing greater comfort as well as meeting environmental sustainability requirements. The project introduces new elements for water management and renewable energy production. A €2.8 million project, proposed by FAL and shared with the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Bari. The old iron bridge, dating back to 1915, was removed on July 12, and the new one was installed on August 9. The bridge replacement is part of a larger €18 million project, funded by 2014-2020 FSC funds, which also includes the reorganization of the track layout at Bari Scalo. The track renewal on the affected section is financed through the PNRR complementary fund with €1 million. The raising of the platforms at Bari Centrale station is part of a broader project to renovate platforms and build new railway overpasses at various stations, financed with €2.5 million. The complexity of the interventions and the subsequent testing procedures required prior to the reactivation of rail traffic require a few more weeks than expected. Thanks to the commitment of FAL and the attention of the Puglia Region, which in recent years has placed local public transport at the top of its government agenda, these interventions will guarantee users a safer, faster, and more efficient service.
