Great success in Matera for the extraordinary Sunday railway services scheduled by Ferrovie Appulo Lucane in agreement with the Basilicata Region and the Municipality of Matera, from Sunday, December 8 to Sunday, January 5, in conjunction with the Matera Christmas events. Over the 5 Sundays during which it was possible to park cars and tourist buses free of charge at Serra Rifusa and reach the center of Matera by train, with scheduled services every 30 minutes, approximately 33,000 people were transported and the parking area hosted over 400 buses. “A result that exceeds all expectations and a bet widely won, despite some initial difficulties – comments the General Director of FAL, Matteo Colamussi – Having removed over 400 buses from city traffic and thus having contributed concretely to decongesting traffic in the City of Matera fills us with satisfaction. We thank the Basilicata Region for believing in this initiative and sharing this choice. It is the first step toward sustainable and efficient mobility.” “I first and foremost thank the FAL staff and management – said the President of FAL Vittorio Zizza – for the organizational effort they made in such a short time to deliver this service, which proved to be useful and efficient. We are already making ourselves available to open a consultation table to make this service permanent, but also to welcome all suggestions useful for improving it. On my part and on behalf of the Board of Directors I chair, there is maximum willingness to contribute to a decarbonization path for the City of Sassi, which will reach full completion in December 2026 with the introduction of zero-emission battery trains.”
