MONDAY 27: TRAINS RESUME FROM BARI CENTRALE TO BARI SCALO. BRIDGE, TRACK, AND PLATFORM REPLACEMENT WORKS COMPLETED. PLATFORM CANOPY WORKS CONTINUE WITHOUT DISRUPTION

On Monday, October 27, rail service will resume on the Bari Centrale – Bari Scalo section of Ferrovie Appulo Lucane, which was interrupted on June 9 for extraordinary maintenance work. The replacement of the iron bridge, track renewal on the affected section, and platform elevation works at Bari Centrale station have been completed. The replacement of the old platform canopy at Bari Centrale with the new one designed by Architect Stefano Boeri is not yet complete but will continue on Sundays and holidays without causing any disruption to circulation or passengers. The old iron bridge, dating back to 1915, was removed on July 12, and the new one was installed on August 9. The bridge replacement is part of a larger 18 million euro project, funded by FSC 2014-2020, which also includes track layout reorganization works at Bari Scalo. The track renewal on the affected section is funded through the PNRR complementary fund with 1 million euros. The elevation of the platforms at Bari Centrale station is part of a broader project for platform renewal and construction of new railway overpasses at various stations, funded with 2.5 million euros. The new platform canopy, designed by Architect Stefano Boeri, is part of a station modernization project to make it more functional, modern, and technological. It also provides an opportunity to redesign the waiting and arrival areas of the railway station, updating them to current regulations and providing greater comfort as well as environmental sustainability requirements. The project introduces new elements for water management and renewable energy production. This is a 2.8 million euro project, proposed by FAL and shared with the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Bari. The complexity of the interventions and subsequent testing procedures required for reactivating rail traffic took a few weeks longer than expected. These improvements will ensure users a safer, faster, and more efficient service. Information and schedules effective from Monday 27 are available on the website http://ferrovieappulolucane.it/, on the Facebook page, and by calling the toll-free number 800.050.500.
